Saans Gallery Exhibit: Working Identities

This last week I took down my exhibit, Working Identities, up in Salt Lake at Saans Gallery. It was up for their monthly art walks from January-February. These images are from the gallery opening back in January (the images with the people in them were taken by the gallery director and in shop photographer, Tom). The show is currently broken up with a few images in the Kennedy Center on BYU campus for their Hunger Banquet exhibit to promote human dignity within poverty. The rest of the images are in my basement with my pending darkroom until September when they will be in the Chapman Library in Salt Lake. I also have a piece in the Mayhew exhibit on BYU campus in the fine art building in an exhibit to be judged later this week. It's an image I made with my Holga, so it's something new, so if you get a chance, go see that.I will also be in Miami next week, Portland in April, then San Antonio, London, Bosnia, Vienna from May-June, Lost Coast of California in July. I have my work cut out for me, so get excited for plenty of new work on my blog.

Something New: HDR Night Photography

Recently in my digital photography class we learned how to do HDR imaging. Frankly, it grosses me out. It just looks too fake and digital. However, I came to the conclusion that it could be really neat to try to do on night photography to make them look really good. I tried a few pictures and they look a little flat and muddy, but perhaps someone out there knows how I can fix this or via trial and error this might be something cool to play around with. Or maybe not.

End of Summer Meteor Shower
I like to base the time scale for my life off of meteor showers. For the last two summers I've spend sufficient time over at Mona lake. To me, Mona is summer. And every summer is a meteor shower so what an appropriate place to go than Mona. I've ended each of these last two summers in the same place, with the same feelings, and last time I had no idea what was going to be happening over the next year. At the meteor shower last year little did I know of what was to come and it was scary and I hated it. This coming year, however, I think I'm going to try to have a little different perspective and instead of being anxious and nervous, be excited. A year is a long time. A lot has drastically changed since then, and I'm excited to see where I'll be a year from now. Happy last few days of summer and happy meteor new year.

Reno

Reno should be renamed "The Weirdest Little City in the World", because if you want to get approached by guys showing you their colonoscopy bags and have waiters tell you they're having a hard time speaking because they recently got stabbed--you're in the right place. Granted, it was 1am while all this happened, but there are still weird vibes here. Got to love this place, though.
