Interpretative Self Portriat

For my digital photography class I had to do an interpretative self portrait. For a while now I've wanted to do one with a kite because I am fascinated by the things that they can symbolize. One thing in particular that I feel like they represent is dreams and thus, ambition. I feel like frequently I get too caught up in my dreams, ambitions, the future and it often ties me down thinking so much about these things. So this is my self portrait, tied up by the kite.

Holga in the DR

I have been quite busy with school and work, but here are some photos scanned in from my time at La Romana and then Columbus Square in Santo Domingo. That boy is my little brother and I believe this photo of me was supposed to be from my self portrait series. Don't you worry, more new stuff will be appearing once I get a moment to actually edit photos.

Self Portrait: Week 7 and then some
So I am back from the Dominican Republic after my slightly over 7 week solo adventure there. It was amazing. I still have a million photos to post, so get ready for the next month or so you'll still be seeing images from the DR. I missed my self portrait this last Monday to finish the series and so this will be my final self portrait, of my UV filter while cleaning it the night I got back. I once heard that you can tell how experienced a photographer is by how dirty their UV filter is. Or perhaps how hardcore. Nonetheless, whatever you decide a dirty filter means (even if it's lazy..which I swear I clean this weekly) you can decide and label me as it, because this is mine.

Self Portrait: Week 5
It's been wild. I'm back in Santo Domingo after an amazing week with new amazing friends.
So many pictures to come.
But today is Monday, which means self portrait monday.
This was taken in Punta Cana.. which is not exactly a town, but a region of resorts. Here we were in The Sanctuary at Cap Cana.. a five star resort and probably the nicest in the country. I was making a portrait for Bill for his website and sometimes I get crazy. This was one of those moments. I was laying on a walkway taking a picture and started busted out laughing. Bill then took the camera and took this picture. Don't know if it counts, but I'm counting it as my self portrait.

Boca Chica
What is supposed to be about an hour away takes roughly 2 hours by bus (Guaguas), depending on how many people the Corbradors pick up off the street and try to cram in. It was beautiful, but very touristy with all the vendors and people trying to rip you off left and right. Also saw the most white people on a Guagua that I have ever seen: 6 in total (including myself--when ususally it's just me). There were four bohemian kids about my age that we picked up off the side of the highway and one hippie girl who looks like she has been all over the world, spoke perfect spanish, and got off in the middle of the highway only to hitchhike into some truck. Jealous? Because I am.
Anyways, my goal is find a secret beach much closer that only the locals know about that I can sneak away to every day after work.
